Village of Milford Celebrates Arbor Day!

Students from Johnson Elementary and Baker Elementary gathered around a silver linden tree at Central Park in Milford to celebrate Arbor Day.  The Village of Milford plants a tree every year to commemorate Arbor Day and uphold their Tree City USA designation.  This year over 300 adults and children from the community attended the celebration. 


City of Traverse City Celebrates Arbor Day!

Traverse City works with a local garden club and students from surrounding schools to plant trees in parks and neighborhoods.  People of all ages from the community participate to make the planting effort a success.


City of Coloma Celebrates Arbor Day!

April 21st the city of Coloma planted an endangered Redwood in a local park to celebrate Arbor Day.  To end the celebration on April 25th, Arbor Day, the city handed out free trees and information at the local musuem.  This year over 30 people attended the events.


City of Saline Celebrates Arbor Day!

The City of Saline celebrates Arbor Day by organizing a community wide park clean up and tree planting day.  This year over 50 community volunteers worked to spruce up Mill Pond Park by putting down a new safety surface under the ROMP play structures, filling in low spots with top soil and reseeding.  The work day culminated with the planting of a Crimson Maple and Pear tree.


City of Berkley Celebrates Arbor Day!

For the past 17 years the City of Berkley has celebrated Arbor Day with a community tree planting program.  The tree planting sites have been on city school district properties.  Various community youth groups such as Scout Troops, baseball programs, and elementary classes have been involved in the effort.  Local elected officials, parents, coaches, school administrators and teachers attend the program.  In the past the City of Berkley has held public forums with speakers addressing topics such as Emerald Ash Borer, proper tree planting and maintenance, and proper mulching technique.

City of Evart Celebrates Arbor Day!

The City of Evart held their Arbor Day celebration on Memorial Day for the rededication of a memorial park.  Guyton Memorial Park was renamed in honor of an Evart-area resident who became the first fatality of war to fall on German soil during the First World War (WWI).  The city council took the initiatve to redo the park and take part in a tree planting.  This was the largest crowd the city has ever had turn out for an Arbor Day celebration,


City of Charlotte Celebrates Arbor Day!

The City of Charlotte has celebrated Arbor Day with a council proclamation and public ceremony.  Past ceremonies have involved tree plantings honoring people or elementary schools.  The City Forester visits Charlotte schools to education children about the importance of trees.


City of Tecumseh Celebrates Arbor Day!

Second and third grade classrooms are invited to help plant trees in honor of Arbor Day.  Usually 10 to 12 trees are planted, accompinied by a discussion of tree importance.  This year a hands on display about Emerald Ash Borer was on hand to show the children how devestating pests can be.  The City of Tecumseh harvested a 150 year old tree that was lost to the Emerald Ash Borer.  The lumber from the tree built furniture for the city cemetary, side boards for city trucks and equipment tables.


City of Howell Celebrates Arbor Day!

The City of Howell celebrates Arbor Day by announcing the Arbor Day Proclamation.  Guest speakers from MSU extension, Department of Natural Resources, and Forestry representatives share their enthusiam for urban forests.  Ten to twenty trees are planted within city property adding to the natural beauty of the community.


City of St. Clair Shores Celebrates Arbor Day!

The St. Clair Shores celebrates Arbor Day each year by planting a tree or two at one of th city's elementary or middle schools.  This year, Pare Elementary received two trees that were planted as part of an Arbor Day celebration on April 25th.  Members of our DPW staff go to the elementary school and give a small presentation about the importance of trees.

City of Frankenmuth Celebrates Arbor Day!

Arbor Day has been celebrated in Frankenmuth since the early 1960's.  A date is chosen as close to Arbor Day as possible.  The site of a tree planting ceremony is announced and all citizens are invited to attend. Third grade classes have been invited to help plant trees.  The Tree Committee chair, a local nurseryman, and the city horticulturalist shared information about Arbor Day, talked about the importance of trees for our environment and quality of life.  One youngster at the event insisted the type of tree being planted was named "Howard".


City of Dowagiac Celebrates Arbor Day!

Arbor Day is celebrated with an organized event that includes guest speakers, local dignitaries, tree planting demonstration, Arbor Day poster contest, distribution of saplings to participants and other activities sponsored by local arborists and nurseries.  Approximately 7,000 people are reached through the city's efforts.


City of Midland Celebrates Arbor Day!

An elementary school in the city is visited during Arbor Day to provide an interactive program for 2nd and 3rd grade students.  A tree is donated to the school and planted on school grounds with the children's help.


City of Brighton Celebrates Arbor Day!

Brighton celebrates Arbor Day by organizing a "Trees are Terrific" poster contest for elementary school classes.  Elementary and middle school kids attend a celebration where they help plant a tree.  Kids are taught how to properly plant a tree.


City of Portage Celebrates Arbor Day!

Portage celebrates Arbor Day by announcing the city proclamation, conducting a memorial tree planting and distributing seedlings to residents.
